Young and Dumb

I’m not going to lie, I make a lot of mistakes. I think making mistakes can turn out good because once you make that mistake you can learn from it and not do it again. If you don’t learn from your mistakes after your first time, you should smarten up before it gets worse. When I was little I used to be a little bit of a troublemaker with my friends, and I would always goof off in some way. Although we knew that what we did wasn’t ok we kept doing them because we knew that we were little and that we could always get away with it. There’s been plenty of times where I’ve made the same mistake more than once. It’s been recently where I made a mistake and I want to make it a personal goal to try to work on myself so I can do better for myself and the people around me.
I think I was only 8 when my mom brought my friend and me to the dollar store in Topsham. My mom stayed in the car while my friend and I went to get a drink and some snacks for us. We both got some snacks that we both liked I got gummy bears and he got lifesavers, we both got water and as we were in the line waiting to check out my friend says “wait come with me” so I go with him and he says I really want some gum. I look at the money my mom gave me then looked at what we got. “I said we don’t have enough” and he said, “just put it in your pocket”. At the time I didn’t realize how much a little pack of gum can really affect someone’s life. We both had a pack of gum in our pockets, as we were walking to the car my mom asked us what we got and I said just some gummies and drinks. My mom noticed what was in my pocket and she asked me “Luis what do you have in your pocket” that’s when I said, “Nothing why?”. My mom asked me to empty my pockets and she asked “Did you pay for these” and I said, “no we really wanted them, but we didn’t have enough money”. My mom turned the car around took us to the dollar store, told the clerk, and made me put the gum back. The clerk told us that he could’ve lost his job and that in other small businesses if you steal it could really hurt the business.
I learned from that lesson and from that day on I never stole again. I’m glad I learned from that lesson because if I never learned then who knows where I’d be right now I could be in jail or I could be in a lot of worse positions than I am now. I’m grateful my mom decided to teach me a lesson on why I shouldn’t steal.
